The Cadette Cybersecurity Basics Class explores and introduces Scouts to different hacking techniques and how to protect yourself with basic cybersecurity precautions.
SteamTanq has qualified and certified Girl Scout Volunteers who are experts in STEM, computing and cybersecurity who have developed unique curriculum and materials to teach Scouts through games, instruction, and hands-on projects. Scouts will be guided through these concepts by our experts on-site.
This course satisfies all requirements for the Girl Scout Cadette Cybersecurity Basics badge including:
- Crack a code – Learn the keys to encryption and how to use that to crack a secret message or to create your own.
- Hack a password – Understand the anatomy of a password, what makes a password secure, and different ways passwords get hacked.
- Explore two-factor authentication – Get introduced to the different methods of authentication and why using multiple factors of authentication keeps access to information, computers and places secure.
- Launch a Man-in-the-Middle attack – Apply your knowledge of the importance of encryption to a real-world scenario where attackers are trying to listen in and steal your data.
- Explore social engineering – Take a look into the wild world of propaganda, pretext and phishing and play pretend where the prize is a target’s sensitive information!
Fees for the class are per Scout. Materials will be provided on site and a minimum of four Scouts is required per class.
